Mr. Marvin E. (Pete) Painter, 76, of 537 Fieldwood Dr., Adairsville, died Tuesday night, March 29, 1994, at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Whitfield County on June 3, 1917, son of the late Marvin L. Painter and Agnes Pearce Painter LeRoy. He was a member of Adairsville United Methodist Church and Adairsville Masonic Lodge No. 168 F&AM and the Royal Arch. Prior to retirement, he was a conductor for L&N Railroad. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Henry LeRoy; a brother, Paul LeRoy; and a sister, Katherine LeRoy.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Crabtree Painter of Adairsville; two sons, Fred W. Painter and Robert M. (Bob) Painter, both of Adairsville; two daughters, Gayle Misto of Westerly, R.I., and Nancy Stroud of Macon; a brother, Freddie LeRoy of Dalton; a sister Pearl Holmes of Dalton; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral was Friday, April 1, at 3 p.m. from Adairsville United Methodist Church, with minister Ken Fresher officiating. Interment was in East View Cemetery. Pallbearers were Casey Malone, Wick Jarrett Jr., Tommy Sherman, Jeff Shick, Roy Adams, Kenneth Holmes, Jerry Holmes, and Keith Holmes. Honorary pallbearers were former L&N Railroad employees.
