p. 37 John Brown gave over Colton Mansion House to let, in 1894. ...He left his children in school and with a trusted staff of servants and he embarked for Florida, with ample cash funds at hand from the loans he had made. p. 44 There was an outbreak of disease among cattle, and the government came in and decimated his dairy herd in a national effort to prevent the spread of the cattle disease. Mr. Brown was greatly displeased at this turn of events and it was this, he told his sons, that decided his pulling up stakes at home to find a different place for farming.
