Residence | On February 18th, 1830, he bought of Benjamin Kiger on Catherine, his wife, 107 acres on the west side of Section 20, which had been patented by the United States to Jesse Reddick, September 7th, 1815. On this land in 1832, he erected a large two story frame house on the north side of the road, wherein he kept a wayside inn and conducted a relay station for overland stage coaches.
It was said that he made a trip to Virginia on horse back, alone, to obtain the money with which to purchase this land. |
