Note: ...under Captain Price Jacobs, 56th, (Taylors) Virginia Militia... They were ordered to the front to aid in repelling an attack by Rear Admiral Sir George Cockburn and his British marauders and incendiaries and made a forced march of two days and nights without rations. Captain Jacobs refused to order his men into battle until rations of crackers and fat, salt pork had been issued, the latter of which they broiled on embers and ravenously devoured. As soon as sufficiently refreshed, they proceeded to the front but found, to their great joy, that the British had retreated.

Residence
On February 18th, 1830, he bought of Benjamin Kiger on Catherine, his wife, 107 acres on the west side of Section 20, which had been patented by the United States to Jesse Reddick, September 7th, 1815. On this land in 1832, he erected a large two story frame house on the north side of the road, wherein he kept a wayside inn and conducted a relay station for overland stage coaches. It was said that he made a trip to Virginia on horse back, alone, to obtain the money with which to purchase this land.
